Sugar Punch And C99 Scrog

OK here is a Sugar Punch and C99 scrog grow. It is very hard to get full grow room pics because of the layout and door placement so bear with me on this.

This is the exact same set up I used for my last Sugar Punch Grow. So this will be an aeroponic scrog under 1200 watt HPS with two Blockbuster 6 Reflectors and 2 600 watt Phantom ballasts.

If you have never tried aeroponics  I highly recommend it. Aeroponic growing is no harder than other hydroponic growing systems and offers a ton of advantages. If you saw my Sugar Punch grow then you know it’s a myth that aeroponics is only for small plants. Those plants were huge and could have gotten much bigger.

So before you dismiss aeroponics, I  just pulled 21 ounces with this system in a 2×6 grow area.What are your yields with conventional growing methods?

I could do much better now that I have selected my keepers. You can grow trees with it if you want. If you want to build a system like mine check out my plans for a diy aeroponics system.

Here is a pic taken on 12/16/14 and I know it’s not that impressive right now but just wait until I flip the switch to 12/12 and things will get much more interesting.
On the far right are several C99 plants that are ready to rock. You can only see part of them in this pic but the screen is full and overflowing towards my wall.

On the far left tote is a clone of #1 it’s a hazey type and fair yielder. Next to it is a clone of #2 the highest yielder.

In the middle tote is #5 which has reveged and has those crazy leaves you get when you do that. In far left corner is #4. It didn’t do much last time but I had a cutting of it so threw it in.

Next to it is a mystery plant. I believe it is a Congo x C99 cross. I made some seeds of this cross and while I was cleaning up found this had sprouted in the container. At worst it’s just a Cindy that fell in from a neighboring plant. Of course it could turn out to be a male. So it could be great or total crap.

In the right tote is 4 Cindy 99 plants and a hidden Sugar Punch #8 which wasn’t a great yielder but again I had a rooted cutting so WTF.

I will be flipping over to 12/12 in a few days. I just want to give plant 5 a few more days to totally reveg itself and then things will get crazy inside my grow closet.

First Week Of 12/12 For Sugar Punch And C99 Scrog

So as a way of celebrating the Winter Solstice I flipped these girls over to 12/12. Seems fitting to do this on the shortest day of the year somehow. The scrog is not full yet but I know how these Sugar Punch girls can stretch.

The Cinderella is earlier and faster and was really growing out of control so there was no need for delaying the flip to 12/12.

Even after heavy thinning the C99 is still a jungle. I was aiming for one shoot per square but I still have more like 2 or 3 in some places. I will definitely need to go back in and prune some more. In another week or two these ladies will start flowering and then I will make my final cuts on them.

This is the Sugar Punch end of the scrog. If I let it SP#1 in the left corner would take over and fill everything. It wasn’t the largest plant in my first grow, SP#2 in the right corner was, but it definitely is in this one.

Here is another view of the scrog. The plant on the middle right is SP#5 and was revegged in place. Some of its branches are hidden from view. SP#4 which didn’t do much last grow is to the left of it. There are another 2 plants out of view.

So right now my plants are at about 1400 ppm and pH is about 5.8. I started this grow at 75% light and am now giving these ladies the full 1200 watts. Grow room temps are mid eighties to mid sixties with lights off. Humidity is 30 to 50%. All in all growing conditions are just about ideal for these girls and things should really take off in the next week or so.

Sugar Punch And Cinderella 99 Scrog Week 2

The girls have made some decent growth this past week and the scrog is now pretty much filled up. Also the Cinderella has just started flowering. The sugar punch takes longer and I don’t expect to see flowering for about another week or two.

The Sugar Punch has filled its space. Some plant’s  branches are stretching upward now and there are a few lower branches to pull through the screen.

By next week Cindy will be in full flower and it will be time to selectively prune out some of the smaller colas. I would like to see the Sugar Punch starting to flower too but I think it will be about 10-14 days behind Cindy.

Week 3 – Sugar Punch Starting To Flower

I thought it was going to take a bit longer but my Sugar Punch has started flowering earlier this week. The Cinderella has been flowering for about a week now. So now the entire scrog is full and in flower.

I did some heavy thinning on the Cinderella to improve light distribution and air flow. Cindy can be quite bushy so I removed a lot of weaker lower shoots and some weaker uprights.

For the Sugar Punch I did a lot of bending to get branches to fill the scrog. She makes much longer internodes than the C99 but the branches are very pliable and easy to bend and get them where you want them.

Sugar Punch And Cindy Scrog Week 4 Flowers Everywhere

Week four and all is well. Flowering continues and the Sugar Punch is getting taller. The flowers will start bulking up soon. The Cindy 99 will probably finish in the next 3 weeks and then it will be all about the Sugar Punch.

Room temps and humidity have been good throughout this grow. Still only feeding them Dutch Master Flower at about 2000 ppm now. My pH has been stable at about 5.8 and no signs of any deficiencies or lock outs.

The canopy is pretty thick and will get thinned again to allow more light on lower buds. I did a lot of bending to keep the height down on the Sugar Punch but now they are reaching for the light. I have about 2 feet to work with now and if they stretch too much I will have to break some necks on them. The internodes are still fairly long but they seem to be a bit shorter than the previous grow from seed. I am not sure if they will keep on stretching or just bulk up.

The Sugar Punch is stretching. Just hit the light so it’s time to raise the lights. The nice thing about these air cooled Blockbusters is the glass is cool and plants can grow right up to it without burning. Tall Sugar Punch girl. She’s a skinny lady now but will put on some weight soon.

Week 5 Cindy Sizing Up And Sugar Punch Stops Stretching

The grow room is bursting at the seams. Cindy is a fast flowering girl and her buds are sizing up nicely. She will be done in about 2 weeks. The Sugar Punch will take another 2 weeks after that. She has stopped stretching so I am looking forward to watching her buds fill out. She’s a skinny girl right now and doesn’t look that impressive but I think that will change soon.

The scrog did a good job of limiting the height on the Sugar Punch so I am happy about that. I still have about 24 inches of headroom to spare. Last time my lights were on the ceiling and she was still hitting them. So I have not had to do any other training besides the scrog to control her height.

My temperature and humidity gauge is buried somewhere in the scrog so I haven’t taken any readings but I am sure they are fine. I guess I should dig it out though. Nutes have been kept at 2000 ppm and pH at 5.8 and everything is growing well. No signs of any deficiencies or lockouts so all is good.

I will have to do some thinning on the Sugar Punch and remove some fan leaves to get more light to the lower level flowers but other than that everything is great.

Week 6 Cindy Almost Done Sugar Punch Filling In

So it’s week 6 now and Cindy is rock hard and should be done in about a week. There are a lot of small buds but they all have good light and are rock hard but it looks like trimming these girls is going to be a lot of work.

The Sugar Punch has stopped stretching entirely and now the buds are filling their spaces. The tops should start looking really nice in the coming weeks. She is an 8 to 9 week strain so she will be sizing up for the next 2 or 3 weeks.

I have cut my nutes back from 2000 ppm down to about 1100. The heavy growth spurt is over for these girls and I don’t think they need the higher nute levels and harvest is not that far off especially for the C99. Here are a few pics from this week:

 Day 45 Cinderella 99 Harvest Has Begun

My Cinderella 99 is now being harvested. Some of the colas are ready. They are fox tailing and hairs are starting to turn orange. Cindy is at its prime and THC at its peak at day 51 according to Mosca, the breeder for this revived strain. In hydro or aero though things are usually a week faster. These plants are sticky gooey and smell out of this world.

I am harvesting some larger colas which should help let some light in on some lower buds. I will probably selectively harvest for about a week on these. Here are a few pictures of a few plants right before harvest.

Week 7 Sugar Punch Still Sizing – C99 Finishing

Started harvesting the C99 and will finish harvesting later this week. Sugar Punch still has a couple of weeks to go. I have been lowering nutrient levels and am running about 900 ppm. Will probably just run pHed water pretty soon as the Sugar Punch finishes up.

The scrog worked really well for the Sugar Punch and helped keep the height manageable. But it did not do as well for my Cinderella. It is a shorter bushier plant to start with and it grew very dense in the scrog. The result was a lot of smaller buds down below the tops. I actually think it will hurt yields and I get better plants without the scrog.

I lost part of the Sugar Punch when a lower branch cracked somehow. One of them was a reveg and kind of woody. I bent one limb pretty hard to get it under the scrog. Last week I noticed some tops were starting to wilt. At first I was afraid it was some kind of disease problem. But further inspection showed that this branch I bent had cracked most of the way through and that is what caused the wilting. So I lost some nice potential colas there. Here’s this weeks pics:

 Week 8 – Sugar Punch Harvest Begins

The Cinderella is all harvested and drying. Yield will not be that great on it. There were a lot of scruffy buds that wound up in the hash pile. This strain is bushy to start with and it just made too dense a canopy and lower buds suffered. I would not bother scrogging it again as my yields are better without it.

The Sugar Punch really benefited from the scrog and height was very manageable. I have my #5 cut which is more indica dominant and it is ready to cut. The others are more haze dominant and will probably get another week. They seem like they would keep growing forever if they had the light and the food. One is still growing its top and they are taking a fair amount of water still.

My nutes are being kept very low, only about 400 ppm. I wanted to keep a little in my res because I have set a few C99 seedlings where the other Cindy was. But all the sugar punch will be gone in the next week because I have some Hells Angel OG coming and that will be my next grow. Here is this weeks pics:

Sugar Punch And C99 Harvest Results

Harvest is complete now and the final yield was 653 grams or 23.3 ounces or 1.45 pounds. I guess that’s not to bad and I am sure there are many who would be happy with this, but I am actually a bit disappointed. I really wanted 2 pounds or more or about 1 gram per watt.

The Cindy 99 yielded 168 grams or 6 ounces and no surprise there, as she is not a heavy yielder unless she gets a ton of veg time. The Sugar Punch gave 485 grams or 17.3 ounces, so a bit over a pound from 4 plants. Lowest yielder was my revegged #5 at 3.75 ounces but I did lose a branch on her in mid grow. Highest yielder was #1 at 5.7 ounces. The other 2 both came in at 3.9 ounces.

I think this was a pretty good grow considering that I don’t use any additives like bloom enhancers or use CO2. Both strains were really sticky and covered in trichomes, especially the Sugar Punch. I bet if I threw it against a wall it would stick!

One thing I would really like to do is lower my temps, even with air cooled hoods it still gets warmer than I would like at times. I think that would make even harder buds and increase my yield at the same time.

In hindsight, I think that the scrog actually hurt my yields. I know it did keep the height down, but it also produced more small buds. Sugar Punch has a lot of Sativa in her and the buds were pretty hard and dense considering this, but like I said overall smaller.

I think the best way to grow her would be to top around the 6th node and then super crop her with a net up higher to give her some added support.

I like Sannies Sugar Punch, she is very potent, yields well and is pretty easy to grow. She is big and stretches a lot and has long internodes so you do need to control her height. I probably wont be growing her again though but still would recommend her as an excellent plant to grow. I am sure I could dial her in and reach my yield goals too. But I really want to grow some OG Kush. It is not a super high yielder and can be finicky to grow but I love a challenge so check out my new Hells Angel OG – Karma Genetics Biker Kush Grow.
