Grow Room Setup For Weed

Proper grow room setup includes good ventilation and is vital for a successful grow room. Without humidity control plants will not perform well and become susceptible to mildew and other diseases. Without proper temperature control buds will not be hard, lack potency and produce less.

Grow Room Setup with a Soler & Pilau TD-200s 8 inch exhaust fan

Many growers focus on lighting and forget all that heat needs to be dealt with. Take this into account before you set your grow room up. No matter what set up you choose air must get in and out. It is relatively easy to do this with a grow tent or grow box but it can be a challenge for a closet grow.

You will need at least two fans to grow weed properly. Depending on your set up and your local climate you may need to increase or lower humidity with a dehumidifier/humidifier.

You will need an exhaust fan to remove the heat from your lights and to remove excess humidity. You will want to hook a carbon filter to this fan to help control odors.

You will also need one for air circulation in your grow room or tent. It needs to keep air circulating though the leaves to prevent disease and to create sturdier branches.

If you are planning a large or commercial grow a sealed grow room with AC and CO2 will allow you to control your grow room perfectly and maximize yields.

Gavita Pro 6/750e Review

stealth grow rooms

Here is my Gavita Pro 6/750e DE Flex review for you. This light is designed for smaller growers. It is a double ended HPS that is designed for smaller grow rooms or grow tents and lower ceiling heights.

Unlike the Gavita Pro 1000 DE which requires a 10 or more foot ceiling and is designed for warehouse type grows this light works for lower ceiling heights.

The 6/750e DE Flex is also the only double ended HPS that Gavita makes that runs on 120 v which is another reason it is home grower friendly.

Just to keep things honest you should know I only review products I have bought and use and here are a few pics of the Gavita Pro 6/750e De Flex hanging in my grow closet.

Gavita Pro 6/750e De Flex
Gavita Pro 6/750e De Flex
Gavita Pro 6/750e De Flex
Gavita Pro 6/750e De Flex

The spread of the Pro 6//750 with the HR96 DE reflector is about 3×4.5 ft (90×135 cm) at 2.5 ft distance in overlapping plans, providing light levels of up to 1000 µmol s-1 m-2.
The fixture’s light source is a Gavita Pro 750W double ended HPS lamp, generating 1450 µmol s-1 of light. With a light maintenance of over 96% per 5000 hours you only need to replace it once a year. Mounting is easy because the fixture is balanced and only requires two hanging points. https://gavita.com/retail/products/gavita-pro-line-e-series/gavita-pro-6-750e-de-flex/

Gavita Pro 6/750e DE Flex Video Review

The Gavita Pro 6/750e De Flex Is Not Your Grandpa’s HPS!

Although I am not new to running HPS this is the first time running a double ended HPS and I was really surprised by the difference. So superior to a single ended bulb it’s not even funny.

Colors Are More Natural With The DE Flex Bulb

They are bright and the color is different. I also run the HLG 550 and the color is similar with a bit less blue. I dont really see the orange tones I got from single ended bulbs. So my first surprise was the color difference.

After doing some research I found the 6/750 is rated at 2100 kelvin about the same as a standard HPS. However it has a very high CRI (color rendering index) which explains why the colors appear more natural.

Heat Was Not Really An Issue

I had some concerns about heat from a fixture that was not air cooled but I am really surprised to find my grow room running cooler than an air cooled 1000w single ended light. How is that possible? My only explanation is the double ended bulb is more efficient and puts out more energy as light rather than as heat.

High And Uniform Light Output

The light output is amazing and even at lower wattage coverage and uniformity are excellent. Penetration is much better too. I am currently running my Gavita at 600w because my plants are only one foot away from the bulb. Even so par readings are well over 1000 micromoles. Surprisingly room temperature in my grow closet is 82 and leaf surface temperature is 79-80 across the canopy.

You should be able to run this light in a grow tent or closet easily if you have adequate ventilation.

More Info On The Gavita Pro 6/750e

The bulbs keep 96% of their output even after a year so you dont need to change bulbs often. Gavita also recommends changing the reflector too.

Lamps emit a whopping 1500 micromoles and I have verified this with a par meter. You really can’t use more than 1000 without CO2 so there is plenty of light to spare. The light is very well distributed over the grow area without shadows that regular reflectors often produce.

You can run it at 400W, 500W, 600W, 750W or 825W and match output to your grow space.

Dimensions are 22.4″ x 9.5″ x 10.2”. You will have an easy time fitting and hanging this light. It has only 2 hanging points and if you ever tried to hang a Magnum or Block Buster you will love its compact size.

Some Final Thoughts  On The Gavita Gavita Pro 6/750e

I am late in the game with double ended HPS because they almost always run on 240 volts. As far as I know this is the only Gavita that can be run at 120. If these had been available earlier I probably would not have switched from single ended HPS to LED.

Here is a video shot 3 days after hanging the Gavita. If you want to follow my Gavita grow it is at: https://420dotcom.com/running-hps-vs-led.html

I give the Gavita 6/750 a definite thumbs up. If you are running single ended bulbs you definitely want to upgrade. If you are starting a new grow this light is an excellent choice. It will match or surpass the best LEDs on the market at a fraction of the price.

Clone King 25 Aeroponic Cloner Review

The Clone King 25 is an affordably priced aeroponic cloner. Since I just purchased one I want to do a review of the Clone King aeroponic cloner. I will be running some clones in it to see how well it works and if it is worth the money.

Clone King 25 Aeroponic Cloner ReviewYou may be thinking about building a homemade cloner and I have built several myself. But although they worked they had their problems. If you look at a clone machine it seems like a pretty easy DIY project. Mine always leaked which is a problem for me.

I live in a 2nd floor apartment so water leaks of any kind from my grow are a definite problem. What it really comes down to is finding the right container. Totes really dont work well in my opinion because they leak.

Then there is the question of how many sprayers and how far they should be from your cuttings. Finally you need to design a top and cut out all those holes.

So when I looked at the price of a Clone King 25 I realized I would not be saving that much money by doing it myself. Starting from scratch if I had to buy a tote, hole saw, pump, pvc and fittings, sprayers, net pots and inserts things would add up. I still may not end up with a cloner as good as one I could buy.

So when I saw the Clone King 25 for just under $70 I jumped on it. I wanted to see if it would perform better than my homemade cloners. Also this unit had a lot of positive 5 star reviews which did not hurt.

[amazon_textlink asin=’B008PUP1MO’ text=’Clone King 64′ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’f03de343-4f5d-448e-9c69-bec4766cba50′]If you are interested in making a lot of clones there is the Clone King 64 site cloner which comes with a larger pump and spray manifold and a bigger reservoir.

Clone King 25 Aeroponic Cloner Review – Unboxing

So the Clone King 25 comes with everything you need except cloning material. It is light weight but feels sturdy. This clone machine measures about 14″ square and about 12″ high.

Assembly is very easy. Clone King 25The most time consuming part is putting the inserts into the net pots. All one needs to do other than that is attach the pump to the suction cup base and center it inside the clone bucket.

The one piece preassembled manifold simply slides into the pump outlet and there is a cut off corner on the lid where the cord comes out. The pump seems solid and well built.

They recommend filling to just below the sprayers. Dont get them under water or they wont work properly. It takes about 2 1/2 gallons to fill it.

The cloner is very quiet and all I could hear was the gentle sound of some water dripping. Also, and very important to me was there were no leaks anywhere, not even around where the net pots sit on the lid.

When I lifted the lid there was spray everywhere and I have to say the pattern was much better than what my homemade cloners produced. I was surprised about this because I figured the sprayers and manifold couldn’t be that much different from my diy cloners.

You get 5 extra net pots and inserts for a total of 30 and some extra spray heads too. I had some net pots of my own and the inserts fit them just fine. However, I did find they were a bit wider and did not drop down fully in the holes but I think they would work fine as spares anyway.

There is a [amazon_textlink asin=’B008NRQJC0′ text=’Clone King 36′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’bab00f68-0eb9-453c-a6b8-2d429f3b5596′] being offered as well as this model and my understanding is it does not use net pots. Instead the inserts fit into the holes themselves. This allows room for more holes to be drilled and as far as I can tell everything else is identical to the 25 site cloner.

Would I Recommend The Clone King 25 Aeroponic Cloner?

The answer is definitely yes. I feel the Clone King 25 delivers good value for the money. I can not see how EZ Cloner or others get off charging that much more for basically the same thing. And a dome? Not needed and can actually hurt your takes. I also saw one that even had a fan on the side. Puleese! Who designs things like that? Not likely growers, just people adding gimmicks so they can charge you more.

I will be updating with a video showing the actual cloning process so bookmark us and stay tuned.

Update: Firing Up The Clone King Day 1

I just fired up my new aeroponic cloner with some of my harder to root strains. Black Banana Cookies always seems to take longer than most strains to root. Tropicanna Cookies always wilts even if it is put in water immediately and as soon as it goes into rockwool or root riots it droops. Same thing happened here but within a few hours the plants perked right up. That does not happen with traditional cloning methods.

So I removed the net pot bottoms easily with a pair of old Fiskers and found it was much easier to get the inserts inside the collars this way.

Some of these cuttings were fairly woody and all have multiple nodes without trimmed leaves. I want to really give this cloner a run for the money. I am hoping I will be able to root larger clones with it.

As a precaution I dipped the cuttings in a half quart of water with a tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide in it. Then I poured this mix into the cloner to help keep things sterile. Peroxide needs to be added more frequently than bleach but it does provide more oxygen besides steralizing things.

I am using tap water in the cloner. My tap water is very clean at only 30 ppm but if yours has a lot of minerals in it you may want to consider using RO water.

CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor Review

Read my CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor Review if you want to know what’s going on in your reservoir at a glance and find out how this nutrient monitor stacks up.

I purchased this from Amazon a couple of years ago and just bought a 2nd monitor for my other grow closet. Here is what it looks like:

CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor Review

CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor pH sensor
CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor pH sensor
CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor TDS/temp sensor
CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor TDS/temp sensor
CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor power pack
CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor power pack

As you can see there are 3 main parts to this meter. It also comes with a generous amount of calibration solutions and a jewelers screw driver to adjust it.

The instructions are very clear and easy to understand and it is very easy to assemble. One sensor is attached, the other screws on and the power pack plugs in to the monitor.

The pH probe ships in solution because letting a probe become dry can affect its accuracy. Everything comes well packed in its own box.

CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor Review

Here is a video of the newly installed CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor in my 2nd closet. If you have seen any of my other videos over the past few you will probably have seen the one mounted on the wall in my primary closet. You can skip ahead to about 1:30 if you want to skip the intro.

My experience with this monitor has been 100% positive which is why I did not hesitate to buy a second one. Currently it is about $185 and cost about $40 more now than my first buy. Prices sometimes go down at times but the trend for most things is ever upward.

I have found it to be very accurate. I recalibrate about every 6 months but it has stayed dead on. When I first bought it I was a bit apprehensive because most other monitors like Blue Lab were quite a bit more but it has turned out to be a good purchase.

I got tired of always replacing hand meters. Either they break, stop working or refuse to recalibrate. So when I broke  my current pH pen after replacing a rather expensive one that would not recalibrate the year before… Well I just said enough!

The cheap yellow pieces of shit for sale on Amazon are a joke and everything else was as pricey as the one I bought at my hydro store. Why? Because I had a broken bulb on the previous one and needed one in a hurry. Bad place to be LOL.

So I decided buying something that lasts like this monitor would actually be cheaper in the long run. Plus you can know what is going on in your reservoir at a glance so if something should go south you can catch it and fix it right away.

I grow with hydroponics so I consider this an essential piece of equipment. At first I thought this was for lazy growers who dont want to check their reservoir but my opinion quickly changed. If something goes south and your plants suffer you could lose far more than the cost of this monitor.

Replacement pH Probe And PPM Electrode Available

The probes are replaceable. The ppm/temperature probes should last for many many years. The pH probe is glass and breakable. So if you accidently break it you can order a replacement probe. These probes generally dont last as long as the ppm probes.

[amazon_link asins=’B07HXC3DTP,B07HXFYNRB’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’80daae2f-ba71-4f51-b314-66843b34b20c’]

Mine is still working perfectly after 3 years. You probably wont need either probe but it is nice to know they are redily available.

What I Dont Like About The CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor

This unit is pretty easy to calibrate but because it is a true scientific instrument the adjusting screws are a bit hard to calibrate. It doesn’t take much to go past the calibration point or below it. So I do wish the adjustments were not so fine and it was easier to find the sweet spot. Honestly though it just takes a bit of patience.

The mounting hardware was crap basically. The monitor was designed to hang on small screws set into another piece designed to anchor in drywall. I was mounting on a wood wall and split one insert tapping it into the hole I drilled. So much for Plan A. I did manage to hang it by substituting a small scaffolding nail I had hanging around for the broken piece.

Final Verdict CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor Review

I recommend this product wholeheartedly. If you are growing in hydro you really should not be without a monitor. There are more expensive monitors with more bells and whistles and maybe a few cheaper ones. But if you want a good basic monitor for your grow the CWP 24-7 Nutrient Monitor can’t be beat.

With that said the price on this has gone up and the price on some Blue Lab monitors has come down due to competition. If you dont mind spending a bit more the Bluelab BLU27100 Guardian Monitor features push button calibration.

Top Feed Drip System Experiment Running 24/7

I have been running a top feed drip system for a while now with good results. So I want to share how my drip system is set up. It is a very easy DIY hydroponics system to set up and maintain and it produces well.

What Are The Advantages Of A Top Feed Drip System?

  • With my drip system over watering is a thing of the past
  • You can use smaller pots
  • You need less nutrients
  • Your grow medium is reuseable
  • Easy and cheap to set up and maintain

Top Feed Drip System Setup

My drip system is a pretty easy DIY hydroponics system and once you have everything you need it can be set up in minutes. It is also easy to maintain and if you need to take off it can run itself for a few days.

[amazon_link asins=’B003FUOASU’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’a55489c6-35fe-4ae2-a3f6-c653df9cbc8c’]My system sits in a 2×4 [amazon_textlink asin=’B003FUOASU’ text=’Botanicare flood tray’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ac1d62b9-8c10-42ee-8713-4cbef9274903′]But it will work in any size tray. You can even run it in a cheap concrete mixing tub from home depot. You will need a set of[amazon_textlink asin=’B0002738JQ’ text=’ flood and drain fittings’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’9633fe82-db1f-4d3a-beaf-6b537cdbd0a8′] too.

I am currently running 8 1 gallon pots but again you can run more or less. I would like to see if there is an advantage to using larger pots but dont have conclusive results one way or the other yet.

[amazon_link asins=’B07LFNJF38′ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d59b965c-0712-4677-843e-a15cf1af56df’]Your medium will be grow stones or hydroton although perlite could work in a pinch if you can contain it. I prefer grow stones. They are superior to hydroton and are made from recycled glass. They are better for the environment, more porous and dont roll all over the place. Hydroton is made from heat expanded clay but it is strip mined and that is bad for the environment.

[amazon_link asins=’B06XCCJXQD’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’36b76903-737f-4165-a44d-0f10905f9172′]I use a drip manifold with 8 outlets. Either a Floraflex or Ocabubbler will work fine. The cheap Orbit manifolds at Lowes or Home Depot dont work well. I found out the hard way. Luckily I caught the problem early and no real damage was done but these cheap manifolds can not deliver enough water to run my system properly.

[amazon_link asins=’B01ETQIC9Q’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’7bb5928a-e92e-4487-adfc-32720c6b4c5b’]You are going to need 1/4″ O.D. tubing to run your irrigation lines. I recommend the flexible tubing Flora Flex sells. That hard black tubing sold at home improvement stores is really hard to work with and really is not much cheaper than the good stuff.

It is important to cut all your lines the same length so they all put out the same amount of water. You will not be using drippers. Just run open ended tubing to each pot and secure it in place with dripper stakes or some other way.

[amazon_link asins=’B0040RH5JS’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’0752e315-db25-4d64-ba41-c87150115d18′]I was running on a timer and irrigating for 1-2 minutes every 3-4 hours. But recently I decided to try running top feed drip 24/7 and not using a timer at all. So you can skip buying a timer if you are feeling adventurous.

I was using a short cycle timer but they can be expensive. However with Growstones or hydroton you can use a pin times and irrigate for 15 minutes every few hours. Also I think it is beneficial to run this type of hydroponic system at night too.

You Need A Reservoir

[amazon_link asins=’B007ZU6WEQ’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’798b9f3c-2730-48c6-a901-424f33cecb46′]You are going to need a nutrient reservoir. I use one of those black and yellow 27 gallon totes you can get at any home improvement store. They only cost about $13 so not a major expense.

I actually use 2. Instead of using a flood table I put one on each end of my flood tray to support it. My trays flood fittings go directly into one of the totes that I use as my reservoir. You will want at least a 20 gallon res or else you will end up having to fill it too often.

Also you do not need air stones and you dont want to use them. No noisy air pumps! Yay! You will have a constant waterfall effect that will provide plenty of oxygen and air stones can mess with your pH.

You do want to try to keep your res temperatures at 72 or lower with 68 being ideal. Although this type of system is not prone to pythium like DWC, cooler water can hold more dissolved oxygen.

Watering Cycles

You can experiment with your watering cycles and this  top feed drip system is very adaptable. You should not have any issues with over watering no matter what cycle you run.I have been running less when plants are small and increasing water as they grow.

On the other hand it is important to make sure your plants get enough water because the media can not hold a large amount of water especially as plants get larger.

I would run 1 minute on and 4 hours off as a minimum and that would be for small plants. You will want to increase it as they grow larger.

You should make sure you are watering untill you have good run off otherwise you could have issues with salt build up.

Support Your Plants

Make sure your plants are well supported with a trellis or plant stake. Your plants will produce very fine feeder roots.

Because they dont have to search far for food they will not produce big thick roots like in soil or coco. The plants need support otherwise you can break the roots if the tops move around too much.

Feeding Top Feed Drip Hydroponic Systems

[amazon_link asins=’B0746WTZBW’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’0e874fc5-a4ac-4076-b1e6-1594a5266940′]First, this top feed drip system is true hydroponics. What that means is things grow fast! It also means things can go south just as fast. You will definitely need a TDS meter and pH pen at the minimum. It is critical that you monitor what is going on inside your reservoir.

The best solution I have found is a[amazon_textlink asin=’B0746WTZBW’ text=’ 24/7 nutrient monitor’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’c897b43a-6936-45b4-a9fd-b72fcd3b2c50′]. The probes sit permanently in your reservoir so you will always know what is going on at a glance.

I have been using the CWP monitor for several years now and it is very accurate and although I do recalibrate every 6 months it never needs adjustment. When I bought it I thought it was a unneeded gimmick but now I would not grow without one.

Your plants are getting fed continually with a nutrient solution. The energy they would expend growing roots and searching for food can now go to growing bud. What this means is they need less nutrients than you use in a feed and water type system. Anything over 1000 ppm is asking for trouble unless you know the variety is a very heavy feeder. Most plants will do fine at 650-750 ppm.

Likewise your pH needs to be monitored so you dont have a lock out. I start around 5.6 and let it range to about 6.3 before I bring it back down.

Your Nutrient Reservoir

Since you will be topping this up on a regular basis you might wonder how I deal with topping up and doing res changes. Here is an article I wrote on a sister site of mine: http://420grower.org/changing-your-nutrient-reservoir/

About Hydroponic Nutrients

Nutrients need to be suitable for hydroponic use. You will want to stay away from heavy organics that might clog your drip lines or cause unwanted stuff to grow in your reservoir. Most good brands will work in this kind of system. My preferred nutrient line is New Millenium and my second choice would be Canna Aqua which I have found to be very pH stable.

Stay Tuned For More Updates

I will be updating as things move along with this grow.

DIY Top Feed Drip Hydroponic System Day 35 Update

So here is an update on my grow system and my watering schedule. As explained earlier this system is easy to set up and not very expensive or difficult to build.

I started running my drip system 24/7 and ran into a few problems. My plants took to it just fine but with the pump running continually my reservoir temperatures got too high for my liking.

This closet sits off my main living area and it tends to run warm. Water temperatures went over 73 so I decided to run an intermittent cycle. My other closet runs 10 degrees cooler so it will work just fine in there.

I settled for 15 minutes on every hour day and night. The plants are loving it and my res stays at 68 – 72 degrees which is fine.

My ppm and pH were rising each day at first. Eventually after adding some PH DOWN and more water everything stabilized after about 3 days. Why this happened is from not running enough flow.

Grow stones might be inert but you can still get salt build up if they get dry. So it is important to make sure a good amount of water is running through them and increase the flow as the plants get larger. That way what you have in your grow medium will be the same ppms and pH as what you are feeding them.

Growing Big Plants In Small Pots

Here is an example of some big plants grown in small pots. Pots are 1 gallon filled with grow stones and on my top feed drip system. This is in my other grow closet and plants are 24 days along.

I veg my clones in [amazon_textlink asin=’B007MDRUYM’ text=’Grodan Delta 5.6′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b015890a-842e-4096-9699-6eb1b3ac07ea’] blocks and then set that in the [amazon_textlink asin=’B00MKB6F56′ text=’grow stones’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’buildkoipondc-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’f3743bfe-6e37-4d7b-abd0-b7ee270c9436′] about midway through a 4-6 week veg.

Lighting for these girls is PLC 250 COBs and nutrients are New Millenium of course. The Biker Kush is 4.5 feet tall and the Tropicanna Cookies is 5 feet. They are about 2- 2.5 wide and I run 4 for a 4×4 with 500w of COB LED. The lights are up as far as they will go. These ladies will probably need a 3rd net.

On another note my lighting was changed to a HLG 550 and my plants are loving it. You can replace a 1000w HPS with this light and get the same or better yield and better quality to. The kicker is you will do it with half the wattage.

This is huge. If you are running a 4×4 with 1000w you can double your production and run a 4×8 with the same watts. Plus no expensive bulb changes and much less heat to dump. Check out the HLG 550 on Amazon at: https://amzn.to/2WmkeXl

Vegging Cannabis With Cheap LED Aquarium Lighting

Lately I have been vegging cannabis with cheap LED aquarium lighting. The lights I use are from LightTimeTunnel and cost about $90. They are also available from Galaxy Hydro and they are the exact same lights but usually cost about $10 more for some reason.

165W LED Aquarium Plant Light Full Spectrum From Lighttimetunnel On Amazon

If you want a grow light with a built in timer and a remote you might consider the VIPARSPECTRA Timer Control 165W LED Aquarium Light. It is more expensive but I think the quality of the light and the 90 degree optics make it a bit better and give a little more par too.

VIPARSPECTRA Timer Control 165W LED Aquarium Light On Amazon

Before I go into more detail on these LED aquarium lights I thought you might want to first see the kind of results they produce. Bear in mind that I grow OG and OG hybrids which are quite stretchy so these are not short squatty indicas. I would guess these plants would be as much as 3 times taller under fluoros.

What You Should Know About LED Grow Lights

First you should know that I own 3 of the 165w LightTimeTunnel lights and 2 of the Viparspectra timer lights.

I  feel it’s important to clarify what I mean by cheap. Cheap refers only to price. These lights are not cheaply made and do the same job as name brand leds costing 2 or 3 times as much. I have had no problems with any of these lights and have some for well over a year.

There are many cheap LED grow lights that offer an all around spectrum and some do offer a separate veg and bloom spectrum. My experience has been that even in veg mode they have too much red in them which leads to needlessly taller, stretchier plants. That is why I veg with aquarium LEDS with predominantly white and blue lights.

You should be aware that white light is not pure white. That is how it appears but it is actually a mix of the full spectrum.

Also the optics make these lights more intense and because of that they can lightburn plants even though they give off little heat.

Finally because these lights are not in a reflector like a traditional HPS they have much less spread. So you will get much better coverage with a few smaller wattage LEDs than one big one.

Many smaller growers, myself included, have height limits and yet want the yield a longer veg time can produce. If that’s you aquarium LED lighting can be a great tool to control plant height.

I should mention I only use these lights for vegging cannabis. They are white and blue with very little red so I don’t think they would be very good for flowering, but then I’ve been wrong before.

I have a small 2×4 tent I use for veg, seedlings and clones and I have 2 of these hanging in there because one only covers about 2 square feet.
