This is my Jackberry grow journal which is 12/12 from seed and growing along side my Jack Herer Grow. Both varieties came from Sannies Seeds.
I am trying an experiment with growing plants 12/12 from seed. Sannies Jack is a sativa dominant strain but I wanted to see how an indica strain would respond so I purchased 10 regular Jackberry f4 and decided to treat them as a separate grow.
My seeds arrived safely and I immediately began soaking them on a wet paper towel. Within the next 24 to 48 hours all 10 seeds had cracked and were transplanted into 16 oz party cups.
Jackberry is a blueberry indica that was crossed with with Sannies Jack to improve yield in the f4 version.
All the plants in this marijuana strain have a blueberry smell but not all the plants will show the pink/blue coloring I am after.
I purchased regular seeds in hopes of finding a few good females and a good male for a pollen source to select for this trait.
Not much to show just yet but I will post pics shortly.
Here’s a pic of my jackberry at 1 week. I usually start counting from when the seeds crack.
I can already smell blueberry when I rub my fingers on the leaves. And here they are about a week later. So really these are about a week from when they showed their seedling leaves. I have a few that are larger than the others and I am guessing they will turn out to be males.
Jackberry Grow Weeks 2 and 3
Here’s my Jackberry at week 2 from seeding. The male plants are on the left and the girls are on the right. I have 5 females for sure and one plant that is slower and could go either way although I suspect it will turn out to be a boy.
Here are my 6? girls transplanted into one gallon pots at the end of their second week. I still have not been able to sex one of them and it may be growing balls or be a hermie but I will know for sure within a few days.
Jackberry Week 4 – Flowering Has Started
The Jackberry continues to grow and I am down to 5 female plants now. The questionable one finally turned male on me. The plants have been overshadowed by the Sannies Jack they are sharing the room with and not really getting as much light as they should have. But this week I corrected that by upgrading my grow room to a 1000w HPS and their future is looking a lot brighter now.
It is so bright in there that I can’t see my cameras screen to compose a picture. The plants are healthy but a bit leggy and although you can’t see it they have started to flower. I will try to get some better pictures soon.
Jackberry Week 5
Here’s a picture of my girls at week five. They are a bit leggy but otherwise healthy. They are darker green than they appear in the pic. Pistils were still small and don’t really show up well. I am having a hard time getting really good pics this grow.
I have been looking for signs of color but have not found any indication of which will be purple and which ones will be green.
Jackberry Week 6
My Jackberry plants are continuing to flower and although they are small now, there should be some significant growth over the next few weeks. This strain is supposed to be done after 8 weeks of flowering.
The plants have a tall open structure and even lower flowering nodes are getting very good light penetration.
Sannie says this run of jackberry should have about 40% purple and 60% green phenos. So far this seems to be spot on as I have 2 plants that are showing a purplish tint to the upper leaves, although it doesn’t show up in my photos.
Jackberry Grow Week 7
My Jackberry plants are continuing to flower and buds are filling out nicely. These plants are only in gallon pots so they need frequent watering but I am very happy with their growth. The plants are 24 to 36 inches in height, with a nice columnar shape. There is good bud development from top to bottom, mostly along the main stem although one plant has thrown up 2 really nice side branches.
This pic below showed a really blue tint to it. They don’t look like that under the HPS lighting. I tried editing but the blue stays and I am hoping this is a shade of things to come in the next few weeks.
You can see that two plants are shorter at about 24 inches tall, two about 30 inches and one about 36 inches tall.

Jackberry Week 8
Some plants are turning purple and all are yellowing as they shuttle nutes to the buds and harvest isn’t far off. I am guessing these plants will get chopped within a week.
Looks like fall is coming and some leaves are a pretty purple on three of my five plants.

The cola in the back on left is huge. It’s a donkey dick about 3″ wide and 15″ tall. Although it doesn’t have the purple coloring some of the others do I am thinking that one is a keeper. Actually, from what I heard about Jackberry, the green ones are supposed to be better smoke and have better flavor than the purple ones.
Jackberry Harvest At End Of Week Eight
My jackberry plants are ready for harvest after 8 weeks of flowering. The trichomes are mostly cloudy and even though I don’t see any amber the plants have stopped taking up water like they used to which to me is a sign that they are done.
Here is a picture of my naked ladies after trimming and ready to be cut and hung. The donkey dick on left is green and a keeper. The next plant is what I thought was my best purple. I wound up with 3 purple and two green.
The fat lady in the middle was a big surprise. It is probably the heaviest plant there. Even though it’s the shortest plant the cola is very dense and solid.
I am going to cross my best purple with donkey to get a purple one with that taller growth form but with heavy purple coloring. Once the final weights are in I will have a better idea which to choose.

This jackberry weed can get you strung out.
Will be back with final weights. Also I quick dried some bud and the high is awesome. Clear headed but with nice body stone that wont give you couch lock.
Jackberry Harvest – Final Weight And Thoughts
My five plants have been dried and trimmed and the final weight is 210 grams or 7.4 ounces. Here is a pic of my buds piled up. The camera doesn’t do a great job showing the colors but you can see the contrast between the green and purple buds.
Here is another shot of my jackberry grow buds along side a Gatorade bottle to give you an idea of the size.
The yield was a bit disappointing but these plants have been through a lot. I was hoping for 2 oz per plant. What I got was about 1.5 ozs per plant. Considering they were neglected somewhat due to health problems it’s not too bad. Also bear in mind these are in 1 gallon containers. I could easily fit up to 40 plants in my grow room and if you do the math the yield is pretty darn good.
I will definitely be growing this strain again and yields will improve especially since I now have a few plants to work with. If you look 3 pictures up of the plants hanging the 2 on the left, donkey and big blue produced 55 and 45 grams respectively. Two of the others produced 40 grams each and the short fat one that I thought might be the heaviest only made 30 grams.
I did not take cuttings before because of lack of space but I am now attempting to reveg these plants. All in all jackberry is pretty easy to grow and it is becoming my favorite smoke.
